Marisa grew up in a household where education and physical activity were valued, but physical touch was uncommon. Her love for learning and curiosity led her to obtain her B.A. in Liberal Studies and a Masters of Library and Information Science, and she became a librarian, working in academia, schools and public libraries. She loved supporting her community by being a resource for adults and children, and fostering creativity and love of learning in others.
Marisa began to study Kundalini Yoga, and was drawn to the deep spirituality of the practice that activated the body, mind and spirit. When she tried AcroYoga, she received her first ever Thai massage and was struck by the healing power of touch. This massage was the seed that would lead her on the path to be healer and guide for other's personal development.
This seed grew roots and worked its way through the soil when Marisa began working with plant medicine in a conscious community. Witnessing the incredibly loving relationship in this environment and developing herself spiritually through this journey work, her inner truth was revealed, and her eyes were opened to the possibilities in her career, life mission, and romantic partnerships.
Those experiences led her to Thailand to learn Thai massage, and the seed emerged from the soil into a sprout. She soon found herself on a beach in Cambodia, waiting for a replacement for a lost passport to continue her travels. It was on that beach that she met Michael, and fell in love.
The two traveled together, learning Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage in Thailand and Hatha Yoga in Rishikesh, India. And her sprout grew leaves. Marisa furthered her development as a massage therapist by getting her certificate at the Massage School of Pasadena. A flower was beginning to form. The couple traveled to Australia before landing back in Los Angeles, where they established their practice of healing and personal development named Purple Lotus. And the flower was now in full bloom.
In 2017, in order to connect to her ancestral roots, Marisa traveled to Teotihuacan, Mexico to participate in her first moon dance, an intense ceremony where women dance all night by the pyramids of Teotihuacan, in celebration of the full moon, for four nights. She emerged from the experience with a deeper connection to her ancestry and womanhood, and a new relationship with the power of ceremony and ritual. She further explored womb healing when trained to become a Vaginal Steaming facilitator.
Combining all that she learned in the healing arts of massage and yoga, breathwork, her experience with inner journeys, Plant Medicine, yoni steaming and the power of ritual, she created the Self-Love Ceremony. Since then, she's performed the ceremony with many individuals and couples, showing them the possibilities in their personal and romantic development, taking them on an inner journeys, healing their body and mind, and planting seeds that will allow them to grow their own flower, blossoming into the people they were meant to be.
